Food and Farming question from Roger Tutt, Oxenhall

At the Future of Local Food and Farming debate that took place at Newent Community School on 3 April 2009, Roger Tutt put the following question to the panel:

Would you regard the grazing of sheep in orchards of fruit and nuts as one good local option for the future?

(Many breeds of sheep appear to do well in most UK weather conditions without winter shelter or much supplementary feeding. And both sheep and orchards appear to be well suited to our local light sandy soils. If someone has existing local pastures, might this be a good way forward? And would you recommend any particular sheep breeds, or varieties of fruit and nuts?)
