Food and Farming question from Martyn Davy, Newent local

At the Future of Local Food and Farming debate that took place at Newent Community School on 3 April 2009, Martyn Davy submitted the following question:

Do we know why people waste 30% of the food they buy?  If we do, can we do anything about curing that wastage?  If not can we find out?  ... Because cutting the wastage would go a long way to fulfilling the 50% increase in food production which is apparently required.
