Food and Farming question from Andrew Ford, Transition Newent Food Group

At the Future of Local Food and Farming debate that took place at Newent Community School on 3 April 2009, Andrew Ford put the following question to the panel:

If, as many including the International Energy Agency are predicting, oil and gas prices rise steadily over the coming years, this will inevitably lead to dramatic increases in the prices of fertilizers, herbicides, pesticides, animal feeds, plastics and of course fuel.  How will famers, growers and the food distribution networks adapt to this?
